Nice episode and very cool brewery. I'm working on something similar but electric. Any chance I could get more details on the hood your using (brand/model)?

Thanks

How did Bryon rig up the reefer guts and how big is the chamber being cooled? I'll check his blog too.

Another great episode!

I read the blog and am curious about how the tiles were mounted to allow cooling behind them? Any light you can shed on that front? I'm about to do the same treatment to my garage wall and would prefer to have airflow behind them as well.

What, no Gopher pride? Come on! Awesome 'sode, getting a more "real" feeling all the time. Great cuts Chip and Bryon, you're a natural! Shotgunning a Furious...that IS Badass! Cool ass stir plate too. Now that I sai all that nice stuff, I expect some ribs one day.

NIce episode. All you needed was a little "Run to you" in the background...'
For the B. Adams...

Great episode! Thanks Bryon for the shout out on Brutus brother! Man I would like to see this in person one day! Save me a beer!

<B>Clowns. I'm surprised he didn't eat the hops! I think they could have spared one.

Killer episode Chip! Brew day beer nerd oriented episodes are my favorite ones. Loved the brewery and although it's awesomely laid out, Bryon still kept it DIY home brewer style (hair dryer = awesome). Also Brewpal has been indispensable for me on brew days, cool to see someone else using it too. Great episode.

Thanks for all the positive feedback! It was a awesome brew day.

@ Sean. The hood brand was "Vent-a-Hood" don't know the model number but it did not come with a blower. Found an inline duct fan at a hydroponics store. Let me know if you want pics of the install.

@ Alan. Rigging "The Beast" was pretty simple I carefully cut up the old fridge so not to bend any tubing, mounted and cut the power cord and wired directly to a Love controller. I disconnected the thermostat that was previously in the fridge. Only three wires to connect. Programing the Love controller takes some practice.

@ Brett. To give some air space behind the tiles I mounted 1x2 on the wall prior to mounting the durock. So there is about a one inch air space between the wall and the Durock. Also, the durock is not flush to the floor or ceiling. If any air warms behind the durock I expect it to rise and suck in cooler air from the bottom. Bur the tile has yet to warm up.

Anyone up for some more ribs? Chips supplying the ribs!

Wow! amazing as always. Never fails to entertain myself and keep my brain going for new beer ideas and equipment! Byron... my girlfriend and myself watched the episode. i have most of the stuff you do, but in a much smaller scale. She saw my eyes as we looked around the BAD ASS BREWERY and she looked a little frightened... thanks for that! :)

I note that Duckmanco states your App was brewpal but I see you were sponsored by ibrewmaster. What are the main differences and which do you app experts out there recommend?

July 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCrezzer

Great as always! War Eagle, Baby!

Another great episode. Byron love the brewery, but I have a question about your smoker. What is the purpose of the tin foil around the outer lip of the smoker? Is this to close air gap created by the slightly mishaped lid (aka factory designed vent system)?

July 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarvin

@ Noah Go Big! My wife just shakes her head and walks away.

@ Creezer I have only used brewmaster can't help you on the differences.

@ Tommy WAR EAGLE!

@ Marvin Yes that old smoker has seen better days. Our two Boxers like to knock it over from time to time trying to get scraps. So yes the tin foil was an attempt to fill in a gap. Might be my last season with that smoker. Might go steal Chip's his is brand new!

@Crezzer - re: apps. I have both iBrewmaster and Brewpal on my iPod; I bought Brewpal first, but I personally prefer iBrewmaster. I find the interface easier to use, I like the recipe formulation and record keeping, and customization of ingredient/mash/equipment/etc. profiles. Pretty robust for a mobile device. That's my $0.02.

Without a doubt... My favorite episode. ...and not just because I'm a Bama homeboy myself (since expatriated to Nashvegas).

ROLL TIDE!!!, BTW. Bryon you are officially my new hero. My poor wife... If she only knew what plans you have hatched in my fertile and inebriated brain. SOON! My brewery. Soooon.

That's what it should always be about,.... brewing and having fun! Love the Frig idea.
