Original Postdate: March 11, 2011
Features:
With wind chills way into negative territory and a four-foot snowbank at home, Brewing TV hits the road for some fun in the sun. This episode finds Jake, Mike & Chip in the Bay Area of California on a whirlwind tour of some of their homie Jon Weber's favorite craft beer spots. Jon is the blogger/photographer behind Beer Obsessed and he knows his way around the Bay Area beer scene with stops in Marin County, Berkeley, and Oakland. After all that beer in one day, we kick back for a homebrew session with the always brewtal Nathan Smith as you drops mad hop bombs on his own North Oakland Double IPA and some dry-hopping projects. Get out your sunglasses and hit the road with Brewing TV!

You guys need to come up to Houghton, MI there is a good craft beer scene here!
I'll second a Michigan episode as someone who grew up there, not to mention the trend of more and more exceptional beer being made there.
But my main reason for commenting is to say the episodes keeping getting better and better! I'm looking forward to seeing you penetrate the Rat Pad.
You seem to be attracting all the Michigan folk today. I'll second the second on that.
Great episode, as usual.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. This is my favorite episode! Triple Rock gettin' nutty! Looking forward to getting back out there and hitting up some of these spots! Metal and licking Medal!
@Bee Pun intended?
Great work as always guys! Keep it up!

Yes, pun intended. I was hoping to spur the meltdown.
Good to see some Northern California recognition.
Best Episode to date.
Beautiful opening shot. Very nice.
I like what Jay Brooks says about the industry and how they react when one does something new and cool. That is kind of how I feel about it, but I'm not competing for business and dollars.
Marin, T ripple Rock, Beer Revolution, Linden St, all those places! good grief.
Fun brew session with Nathan.
New low: Chip licking dirty brewing medals. :) This was an episode to make all of us Midwesterners jealous. nicely done.
Definitely the most polished episode. Love the slick pictures at the end. Nice work Chip!
I'm moving. Rancid(the band) & great beer what more could you ask for. Another East Bay Night.
Great job dudes, as always! AFBBFA
Nice to see you guys learned how to pronounce Marin during your stay. Another excellent effort; can't wait for Episode 33!
Amazing episode. Growing and living on the bay area myself this did a great job of showing not only some great beer sites. Toronado and so forth are amazing and are to be noted, but you guys really well by stay out out of SF and enjoying the greater bay area. Also! I haven't listened to Brainoil since high school when we were drinking 211 (how naive i was) in my friends backyard and try to see who could jump high enough to bang their head on the ceiling. Your best episode yet! a thousand thank you's!
How does Nathan even any beer out of that pot with all the hops?!
@ California Pete -- you should've seen the torturous tutorial by Jon Weber to get us to say 'Marin' correctly. We were slaughtering it at first. Say it with me "Mahr-IN"
@ Garth -- As far as nuttiness at Triple Rock.... for full disclosure - I did have to get a tetanus shot after licking Rodger Davis' medal. Who knows where it's been?!
@ ZACH -- we did make it to the Toronado during our visit. It was awesome! As was Memphis Minnie's BBQ which, besides the great beer, was the highlight of the trip for me -- being a good ol' Southern kid and all. We also made it to 21st Amendment to interview Shaun O'Sullivan and head brewer Zambo, but we're sitting on that footage until we can do a second shoot here in Minnesota where all their nationally distributed beers are brewed and cans are packaged. Bookend the brewpub in SF with the large-scale operations in MN. As Jake says it's our "Looking California, Feeling Minnesota" episode (all hail Soundgarden!). I also hope both Nathan and Jon Weber get a kick out of your Brainoil comment.
@ All Y'all -- Thanks for the comments so far on BTV 32. Personally, this was one of my favorites episodes (obviously) to shoot... but also to edit. On par wih the Surly episode, which I think is still my personal self-crowning acheivement with Brewing TV. I like both episodes for the same reasons - nice narrative structure, great people (and characters - COBRA!), the pace keeps the ball rolling along, GREAT METAL makes for GREAT SEGUES. And of course in the case of a Day Around the Bay, ending the episode with a sick brew session is the icing on the cake.
The upcoming BTV 33 on the Brewing Network is going to be a good one, too!
Brew Tang!
Absolutely the best episode yet. Keep up the great work. You guys got any plans to tour the Seattle area? Love the series.

Great Ep! Loved it and want to take a beer tour to the bay area now.
Did anyone else notice how different the wort in Nate's two carboys looked? One seemed a lot darker than the other, or maybe one was just cloudier but there's a lot more protien break material in one of those bad boys so I'm not sure the WLP vs. Wyeast side-by-side would be completely accurate given the different conditions. But I loved the Ep and I love that California beer scene. Rock on.
"Did anyone else notice how different the wort in Nate's two carboys looked? One seemed a lot darker than the other, or maybe one was just cloudier"
That's due to the Oxygen blast, the lighter carboy had the Oxygen most recently.
