Brewing TV - Episode 29: Clemifornia Dreaming

Original postdate: January 28, 2011
Features:
- Chip's Solo Brew Session: Clemifornia Commontine
- Basement Tour & Tasting Notes X 2
- Lots of blooper-worthy loopiness
BTV videographer Chip Walton has the wintertime blues. He hopes to cure them with a homebrewed beer kissed by the sun in the form of clementines aka "Christmas Oranges." But Jake & Mike are nowhere to be found. Thankfully Chip ain't scared! He grabbed a camera, tripod and wireless mic to host his own self-shot episode. Needless to say, he bit off just a little more than he could chew and things get a little out-of-hand. Join Chip as he brews his unique Clemifornia Commontine beer, talks/sings to himself and gives tasting notes on his own Chizzer Wizzer and Le Saison Noire homebrews. All for brew, brew for one.

Best bloopers ever. Awesome, Chip.
Nice job Chip. I'm really curious to hear how that beer turns out. I've thought about trying actual fruit instead of dried peel, but always shied off. If it works for you, I'll try it :)
@ Jeff... in case you missed the link under the episode there are some fermentation & early tasting notes on this Short Pour video:

This is a really good shoot, regardless of the bloopers. I have tried filming and brewing (alone... :-( sounds really sad when you put it in print) and it is really difficult. I think you did a great job, and I was cracking up at the stuff at the end. GREAT JOB!!! More solo CHIP!!!!! Or some solo chip.....ok, occasional solo chip is fine!
Chip, you are f^#$in' awesome! True, Mike and Jake are great too, but watching you makes me feel like I'm just hanging out with a buddy brewin' up some beer. If you're ever in Milwaukee, stop by for a pint (or 3).
Great job Chip!!!!!!!!!!
Jake and Mike WHO????
Another Great Show!!!!!
Nice work Chip! Bloopers at end were awesome and overall great job. Chocolate 7-UP....?
Nicely done Chip. You got me laughing as you put spliced in some of the funny/goofy things you were doing. I may have to try this recipe, its sounds like it could turn out delicious!
I really enjoy you in front of the camera as well as behind. Extreamly funny and reminds me of (like another post said) one of my buddies just hangin. I did want to say thanks for doing the "hand sparge". I've been doin the same thing for a couple years now and wondered if I was a weirdo for doin it or if anyone else thought of doing it. thanks again.
Might be time to paint that wall over there at the beginning. :)
As for your "sparge" with the specialty grains, I do the same thing when I brew with extract. I don't like to waste flavor.
I think you did a fine job, always good to see the guy behind the camera... and why he's not in front of the camera. hehe. Keep up the good work, you're always welcome back in Portland for a brewing session at my garage!
Alternate Title for this episode: Chip Loses his F--king Marbles. :) Congrats on surviving the brew day/video shoot. I think I barely survived it myself. Whew! Hope that beers turns out.
Hey Chip thanks for carrying the torch. Gotta say though, wasn't my favorite episode. Im all about the goofy but i just got a weird overly narrative/pet vibe. Dont want to discourage you from doing it again, you were a great fill in.
I always look forward to the next episode. This one did not disappoint! thanks for the entertainment, and your brew days are pretty much like mine haha, "i'm never doing this shit again!". made me crack up.
Hopefully in a few months there will be some tasting notes on your common!
Chip - awesome. BTV never fails to entertain. The spilled grain shot is absolutely priceless! Thanks for keeping new eps coming.
Chip,
You are defiantly are the comic relief of the show. I know you have been brewing a short period of time. It really reminds me when I first started brewing. If anyone out there feels discouraged the first couple of brews, don’t. The best beer is your beer, no matter the how or what you put in it. Look forward to more shows with Chip. Brew On Chip.
Where can we find the unedited show? LOL, keep up the good work!
Chip you are a nut job...AKA The Man!!! This was fun to watch. I do extract brew and I'm happy to see more brewing shows showcasing extract. Chip I too do the hand sparging. I like being able to interact more with the beer, plus I feel I get more use and flavors out of my steeping grains.
@ 11:40, funniest 30 seconds of all Brewing TV. "Its ok, we're gonna boil it" haha
Id like you to do another episode where you instead make a high gravity beer where you are just throwing in more random hops, malts and ingredients from around the kitchen. Kinda like how you did in this episode but really take it to the next level where you are really unsure if the beer will even be any good. Youd be a good contrast to the more planned and calculating Jake and Dawson.
Great work Chip!
Love your episode.
